Vladimir Propp

Vladimir Propp, the Russian structuralist, studied fairy stories and established a number of character types and events associated with them.
He called these events ^functions' and suggested their number was limited to 31. His work has been related to film and media studies, and it is possible for example to use Propp's theory to fit the character types in a range of texts, especially feature films.

  6. Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End. (mainly)

    Hero: Will Turner
He seems to do most of the hard work, always getting into trouble to help others and is constantly saving Elizabeth. He looks for adventure and isn't afraid to fight when needed.

    Villain: Davy Jones
From the moment you meet this character in Dead Man's Chest, you know he isn't the nicest of people. He kills because he hates love, and this is what happens in the last film. He kills Will because he is in love with Elizabeth. He is a very jealous character, who is also full of hatred.

    Dispatcher: Lord Cutler Beckett
We only really get to know him in the last film, but he clearly tells people what to do. He doesn't tell our hero what to do but he does tell smaller characters like James Norrington what they have to fulfill. He is slightly evil but he shows no mercy until he meets his end, then we see what he is really like.

    Donor: Captain Teague
He is Captain Jack Sparrow's dad, and he only plays a small part, but in this third film, he gives Jack something to help him get to Worlds End and back again, I'm not sure what it is, but I think it is part of the map.

    Helper: Gibbs
He is always helping the crew out and making sure the ship is running smoothly. He cares for Will and Jack, but that doesn't stop him saying what he really thinks.

    Heroine: Elizabeth Swan
She is always being captured by other pirates and puts herself in danger. She does tend to let herself build up adventures from childhood memories, which soon go wrong and put her in danger.

    False Hero: Captain Jack Sparrow
He does come across as a hero, but all the way through the films he does seem to deceive his crew a lot. And he only seems to do this when he needs to save himself. He doesn't really care about anyone and he does everything secretly. Keeps it from his crew.

  7. Harry Potter

Hero - Harry Potter. Harry Potter is the obvious hero in this film as he is the only one who can defeat Voldemort. He is courageous and always helps out.

Villain - Voldemort. Voldemort is the baddy of the film as he wants to control the whole wizard world. He also killed Harry's parents.

Dispatcher - Dumbledore. I chose Dumbledore because he has always looked after Harry and helps him when he needs it.

Donor - Dumbledore. In the film, Dumbledore leaves Harry possessions in his will that help Harry when defeating Voldemort.

Helper - Ron and Hermione. These two always help Harry when he needs them, and always goes with Harry wherever he goes.

Princess - Ginny Weasley. The girl that Harry loves, he had to save her when they where in the chamber of secrets.

False Hero - Gilderoy Lockhart, come across as a hero that accomplished all these things, but the truth came out and he hadn't in fact done nothing like it.
