Hero Archetypes

"Archetype" is a term to describe universal and recurring characters. The word is based on the Greek, archetypos, meaning "first of its kind". Archtypal characters share certain common features that possess elements of universality. They are able to transcend cultural boundaries.

The Charmer: a smooth talker, he creates fantasies

The Bad Boy - Handcock because although he is helping in some ways he is also causing trouble at the same time, he is not realy a character that at first people would aspire to be

The Best Friend - Ronald Weasley because he stands by harry they have been friends for ages and he helps him through everything he can

  5. The Chief: For this one i chose Hannible Smith from the A-Team as i feel he is the leader/chief of the group he is in. He comes up with all the ideas and always seems to get the others out of trouble.
The Professor: I chose Mr Fantastic from Fantastic Four for this one because he is indeed a professor, he always seems to know the answer for the problems that come up and he is almost the smartest character in the film
The Swashbuckler: I chose Phil Wenneck from the Hangover as he is the one that likes to joke around. Even in the situation they are out in, the still manages to see the light of day and have a laugh.
The Warrior: I chose General Maximus Decimus Meridius from Gladiator to represent my Warrior as i feel he is a true definition of one. He stays strong and courageous throughout the whole film.

  6. Obed Thomas -
The Swashbuckler - Johnny Depp - Pirates of the Caribbean - I think that he is the swashbuckler type hero as he plays a eccentric and all though he is the kind of character who would rather sit around drinking he always enjoys the sword play and the excitement he gets from a life or death situation.

The Best Friend - Dexter- Michael C. Hall - I put him down as the best friend but I feel that he would fit perfectly and equally in The Charmer and as a Warrior because although he is a killer/vigilante who kills in horrific ways the director makes the audience feel compassion for him. The reason I can put into three different characters is because he is a sociopath and he is incapable of emotions. This means that he plays the persona of what another person needs him to be. At work he plays the charmer who creates his own fantasies so suspicions won't be aroused, when he is at home with his wife and kids he plays the best friend who shows compassion and plays the perfect dad who never wants to let his family down. But when he is stalking and capturing other killers he plays the warrior, a noble person who acts on honor and a strict code to carry out vengeance for the innocent.

  7. The bad boy - James Bond as he is out to kill and doesn't care about people being hurt around him.

The charmer - Hitch as he shows men how to charm women and how to 'win them over'.

  8. The Professor: Professor Brainard from Flubber
I chose him because he is all about science and is trying to perfect an experiment which allows objects to fly through the air. It looks like rubber, so he calls it flubber.

The Warrior: Nicholas Angel from Hot Fuzz
I chose this character because he stands by what he believes in, which is that people are being murdered and it isn't by accident. He is very honorable towards the Police Force but tends to be a slight workaholic.

The Swashbuckler: Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean
I chose Jack Sparrow because he never sticks to the rules, even of piracy, and is always looking for an adventure. No matter how small. And always uses his very persuading ways to get other people involved also.

The Bad Boy: The Joker from Batman
He doesn't really seem to care what people think of him. But as soon as someone stands in his way his true colours begin to show. He is a very tricky and mysterious character, but he is very calm. He likes excitement and is looking for any form of excitement.

The Chief: Charlie Swan from Twilight.
He is always working, throughout all of the films, and he knows he doesn't seem to be there for Bella enough, when he almost loses her, he realizes things need to change but they don't.

  9. The Warrior - Robin Hood. He acts as a leader in many ways and the other characters look up to him.
The swashbuckler - Hancock, He could be a hero and help others but uses his powers for the adventure and excitement instead.
The bad boy: Draco Malfoy from Harry Potter. He is unfriendly towards others and most of his 'friends' will do as he says. He often threatens other characters and looks down on others.
